A Real Deal Design varies from a full service design package in several key ways:
Scale - although the design elements we specify will be to scale, because a thorough site analysis is not part of this process, the final design should be considered approximate only.
Design modifications - for a full service landscape design, a preliminary concept plan is prepared. The designer and homeowner use this document to discuss, brainstorm and rework design elements prior to completing the final design documents. This is not part of the Real Deal Design process.
Complete planting plan - a full service design package calls out location, quantities and sizes of all plants. For a Real Deal Design, trees and specimen shrubs are labeled on the plan and an additional plant list is provided that the homeowner and contractor can use as a source for choosing the remainder of the landscape plants.
Construction notes and design details - sketches or notes describing color, size, details or other details for hardscape elements are not provided.
Can a contractor use this to bid and install my project?
Yes, with the understanding that design elements may need to be adjusted based on actual site conditions. Although this plan will make general hardscape and plant recommendations, it does not include the level of detail or specifications that allow a contractor to provide a highly focused bid, but it is far superior to spending thousands on a landscape installation based solely on verbal communication with your contractor.
After our on-site meeting, or after I receive my design documents, what if I decide I would like a more complete set of design documents?
At the client's request, a Real Deal Design can be upgraded to include more of the elements of a complete landscape design.
Is any follow-up included in the price?
Real Deal Design was created as a way to provide professional design services to homeowners working within a limited budget. To keep the process affordable, once the final work product has been delivered, the homeowners may schedule a 30 minute phone follow-up consultation, after which the contract is fulfilled.
